Class Topics
Nutrition:
§ Proper nutrition is essential for a healthy pregnancy and the proper development of
your unborn baby. My class instructs partners how to evaluate and make changes
to the mothers diet to stay healthy and low-risk during pregnancy and beyond.
Weekly nutrition topics are incorporated into each class.
Exercise:
§ You will learn moderate, toning & stretching exercises to help develop and maintain
flexibility and endurance for the athletic event of birth.
Relaxation techniques:
§ Partners are taught how to work together on daily relaxation exercises to develop a
rhythm and a strong partnership that will endure the stress of birth.
Active participation by husbands and/or partners:
§ Please note: The Bradley Method® was founded to teach husbands how to act as a
birth support person or “coach” for their wives. However, a woman need not have a
husband to have a successful, natural birth. Life partners, siblings, parents or even
friends can serve as a birth coach. It is essential, to have someone that can commit
to the class and be a strong support for the mother-to-be.
§ Together, you and your birth partner form a team and work daily to develop the
skills needed to relax, breathe naturally, develop trust in your body and the birth
process, and to make the necessary choices to promote a healthy birth, for both the
mother and baby.
Parental responsibility for birth choices:
§ The choice of caregivers, birth place and procedures are ultimately the responsibility
of the parents-to-be. Consumerism is emphasized as a way to take responsibility
and make conscious decisions about your birth experience.
Preparation for unexpected situations:
§ Partners learn how to evaluate unexpected situations and make informed decisions
that are in the best interest of mother and baby.
Breastfeeding and newborn care:
§ Birth is just the start of the journey into parenthood. Breastfeeding and newborn
care topics are included in my course to ensure parents get off to the right start with
their babies.
And much, much more!
